Eighteenth Report of the Committee on Devonshire Verbal Provincialisms
Trans. Devon Assoc., vol. XXXII, (1900), pp. 55-73.
by
F.T. Elworthy
Prepared by Michael Steer
The Committee’s Report was read at the Association’s August 1900 Totnes meeting. The Members’ purpose was to note and record current and past use of any Verbal Provincialisms in Devonshire, in either written or spoken language, that had not been included in the lists published in the Association’s Transactions. This report results from the efforts of an unusually long a list of contributors. This fact perhaps provides sufficient evidence of the Committee’s and the topic’s continued vitality. It appears that the subject of Devon’s unique “provincialisms” is by no means exhausted or showing signs of failing Association membership interest. The present Report, from a copy of a rare journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitization of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
