The soil is chiefly light, though various, with a subsoil of clay. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £455, and the glebe contains 85 acres. The living is a rectory* annexed to that of Woolverton, in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £600. The church, dedicated to St. Lawrence, is an ancient structure, with a square embattled tower containing a clock and six bells. The parochial charities produce about £4 per annum.
